A Forum for Helicopter, Aviation, and Combat Vets of all wars, to share their stories. Writing is a catharsis, healing for a seared soul. It provides a file, a way to distance oneself from things that if left alone, fester for decades, even a life-time. For some it's things that cover a spectrum of life and death, with a lot of raw nerve endings exposed. Sometimes horrific beyond measure, sometimes incredibly funny, we learned to protect each other, and get the job done; and that in spite of overriding, questionable politics, and slanted media coverage. Long after-wards, in the healing process that must somehow take place, in the midst of things like "survivor's guilt", and "PTSD" we learn not only it's OK to shed tears over a lost friend, but also to laugh at ourselves in the unexpected predicaments we'd find ourselves in--spite of the damned war. It's a peculiar juxtaposition of the macabre and the mundane. Tread lightly here, but wholesomely.JWV
